2020 tax return: top start for online reporting

The teleservice to report your 2019 income opened on Monday, April 20, 2020.
Due to the coronavirus crisis, the deadlines for declaring your income, online and on paper, have been extended.  The new declaration calendar was the subject of an announcement by the Minister of Action and Public Accounts Gérald Darmanin on March 31 (click here to find out the date of tax declaration in your department).

Note that for the first time this year, the declaration of income is optional and no longer compulsory for part of the taxpayers (see the conditions below).

The fact that income tax is now deducted at source does not mean that the tax return has become exempt.  The change in the method of collection, however, introduced a novelty: the end of the obligation for all to declare their income, enshrined in the finance law for 2020.

Around 12 million tax households have no steps to take in 2020.  Good to know: people who are not domiciled in France, if they have money from French sources or at least one home in France, must also complete an income tax return.

Note that people who are not taxable still have an interest in subscribing to a tax declaration in order to receive a notice of declarative situation for income tax (Asdir) which will serve as tax proof if they  take steps to obtain tax benefits or simply request an APL.
