What rankings for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2?

Faced with the scenario of an early stoppage of the season, the battle for the final ranking is already raging between the presidents of the Ligue 1 clubs, in the absence of precise regulations in the face of this unprecedented situation.  Decryption elements.

La situation

After a meeting of the Bureau on Thursday, the League's Administrative Council (LFP) must meet to formally endorse the end of the 2019-2020 fiscal year, but also fix the date of the next General Assembly, expected in mid-May  », Where the next battle of French football will be played.

Who will fix the rankings?

The LFP General Assembly.  Except that the Federation (FFF) has, via its Executive Committee, a right to inspect the solution proposed by the League.  It also issues the UEFA license required for clubs qualified for the European Cups.  One certainty: the debate promises to be heated and many appeals could follow the validation of the ranking.
Will the title be awarded?

With 12 points ahead of Marseille (2nd), PSG went straight to the coronation.  But in its texts, the League plans to "award" the title "after the last day", which opens the door to various interpretations.  In the Netherlands, the Federation has chosen not to designate a winner.

 European places, for whom?

For the Champions League, the different scenarios hardly leave room for doubts: PSG (1st) and OM (2nd) would get their ticket, while Rennes (3rd) would play the third qualifying round.  The fight for C3 looks more complicated.  If Lille (4th) seems to be assured of a folding seat, arguments flare up to determine the other elected officials, who could sometimes be Reims and Nice, sometimes Lyon and Montpellier, depending on the criterion chosen.  But still, gray areas remain, especially on the assumption that Saint-Etienne would win the Coupe de France, if it is played well, which would exclude the 6th of the lot.  The final word could go to UEFA.

Who will go down?

The president of the FFF, Noël Le Graët acted to be "for the application of the regulations", with two climbs and two descents for the L1.  Amiens (19th) and Toulouse (20th) would then be relegated.  Lorient and Lens, 1st and 2nd of L2, would go up.  Another option: do not relegate anyone and play at 22.
