CANADA - A message of condolence from Queen Elisabeth II and musical and virtual tributes poured in on Tuesday, April 21, as the record for the shootout in eastern Canada in Nova Scotia, the worst in the history of the country, rose to 23 dead.
"We believe there are 23 victims, one of whom is 17," said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP, federal police) in a statement.
She said she had found new bodies at the scene burnt down by the killer, who had set fire to at least five houses and vehicles during his murderous journey, on the night of Saturday to Sunday
Police did not say whether the death toll included the killer, who died of his injuries after being shot by police at a gas station on Sunday afternoon in Nova Scotia.
For several days, tributes have multiplied: musicians have broadcast their interpretation of famous songs or tunes online (like “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen) in tribute to the victims of this killing, before the planned “virtual vigil” Friday on Facebook, coronavirus epidemic requires.
